Don't Limit Jesus
Galatians 5:16-18 “So I tell you, live the way the Spirit leads you. Then you will not do the evil things your sinful self wants. 17 The sinful self wants what is against the Spirit, the Spirit wants what is against the sinful self. They are always fighting against each other, so that you don't do what you really want to do. 18 But if you let the Spirit lead you, you are not under the law.”
You have made the decision to accept Jesus as your Savior. You've admitted you are a sinner and that Jesus gave His life on the cross and rose again to save you. You have secured your spot in heaven for eternity.
But....how is life going here on Earth? The place you'll be living for probably 70+ years. The place you will be impacting people for Christ or possibly deterring people from Him. Sure there are a lot of scriptures in the Bible about eternity and Jesus' sacrifice for us. But a lot of the Bible is telling us how to live, right here, right now.
Have you let your salvation become more than a get-in-to-heaven ticket? Has it began to change you from the inside out? Does your family notice a difference in you? How about your co-workers? The drive-thru lady that messed up you order? The guy that cut you off as you drove to church? The homeless man you have walked by a dozen times before but never acknowledged? Are they seeing a change in you? Do they see Jesus shining through?
In Romans 7:14-25, Paul is wrestling with his own human nature to sin. Verse 14 says “We know that the law is spiritual, but I am not. I am so human. Sin rules me as if I were its slave.” He goes on to say in verse 15 “I don't understand why I act the way I do. I don't do the good I want to do, And I do the evil I hate.” Paul recognizes his sinful nature and goes on to thank God for his salvation through Jesus Christ later on in that passage.
We all wrestle between our sinful selves and God's laws. Jesus saves us. He left us a perfect advocate, the Holy Spirit. If we let Him, He will begin to change us. Salvation doesn't take away our sinful nature, it saves us despite of it. It's still here. Roaring everyday. Making us do what we don't want to do.
How do we make it a fair shot for victory here on Earth? Grow in God's word. Learn to love prayer time. Make God a part of every situation and decision. Allow the Holy Spirit to move in your life. Don't be proud but give God the glory. Count your blessings. Understand God is always good.
You've trusted God for your salvation through Jesus. If you have trusted Him for your eternity, you can trust Him for all the trials here on Earth. Let your light shine. Begin changing through Him here. Here is where you can lead others to Jesus because they see a difference in you. Here is where you can give hope through your responses. Here is where you can affect your family for generations. Here is where someone can be blessed because you gave. Jesus shouldn't just be left as your ticket to Heaven. He should also be your driving force here on Earth. He can be. He will be. Will you let Him? Don't miss out on a lifetime of living with Jesus because you've contained Him to only handle your salvation.
God is constantly working on my sinful nature. A lot of days I don't do that great at showing Him to the world. I yell in the car at the guy who cut me off. My kids hear me react that way after I just told them to stop yelling at each other. I am being no different. My family sees me overreacting to a situation when I just told them to rely on Jesus for theirs. Do I huff when my drive-thru order is messed up? Yes. I am a work in progress. But the question is, am I progressing? Depends on the day. But my heart is aware. And I am asking God to help me be a better light for Him.
